Thinking About This Photograph

This photo was taken in Nihonbashi-Tomizawa-cho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.

There are no landmark buildings in Nihonbashi-Tomizawa Town. The city is lined with new buildings and new apartments.

An abandoned wooden house found in such an inorganic city.

I was attracted to the unmaintained planting around the air conditioner outdoor unit and released the shutter.

The area around this abandoned house was surrounded by new buildings and new apartments, and it seemed that only this place had stopped time.

In order to express this atmosphere in the photograph, I shot the Rollei Retro 80S film with ISO160 setting, enhanced the shadow tone, and made the highlights of the outdoor unit and the leaves of the plant stand out.

The exposure is measured using a spot meter, and the measurement method uses the “brightness difference exposure setting method” that I devised.

In the case of film photography, the “width of tone adjustment” at the time of photo finishing is narrow, so the tone of the photo is determined by the state of the negative film that has been developed and finished.

Therefore, it can be said that the exposure setting is the most important issue in order to finish the work as you imagined.
