【Shoot on Best Black and White 35mm Film Camera and Developing】
Photographing the Store Window of a Luxury Brand Shop in Ginza,Tokyo
Before running the “The Other Side of Tokyo Japan” photography project, I was devoted to shooting black-and-white film on “Store Window” in the Ginza area.
There are store windows such as luxury brand shops all over Japan, but there is no other place where the store windows are as dense as Ginza.
Since I can get to Ginza in about 20 minutes by transportation from my home, this “Store Window” in Ginza was suitable for my photography.
In addition, this “Store Window” series was the catalyst for starting “The Other Side of Tokyo Japan” photography project.
Shooting Method Using “Bokeh”
In this “Store Window” series, I am trying one thing.
That is “Bokeh“.
“Bokeh” seems to be a word that has become popular overseas recently, but it is a word derived from Japanese that refers to a state where it is out of focus.
In Japan, it generally means a bad condition, but in terms of photographic art, you can also use that “Bokeh” to create pictorial photographic works.
The store windows of luxury brand shops are stylishly made by designers, so it is not a bad idea to take a straight photograph.
However, because all the materials used are new, shooting with black-and-white film tends to result in poor “Tone“.
So I came up with the idea of using a technique called “Double Exposure” as a way to create tones.
Create a “Tone” with Double Exposure
Shooting Method Using Specific “Bokeh” and “Double Exposure”
Specifically, the first exposure is taken as usual, the second exposure is out of focus, and the same scenery as the first exposure is taken.
As a fine technical adjustment, the exposure is set to “2/3 stop” underexposure during the first exposure, and the exposure is set to “1 and 1/3 stop” underexposure during the second exposure.
At the second exposure, set the aperture to the open aperture and intentionally lose focus.
Multiple Exposure with “PENTAX LX”
To perform this multiple exposure, you need to use a camera that can perform multiple exposures.
Fortunately, the “PENTAX LX film SLR camera” I use is a camera that can perform multiple exposures.
The PENTAX LX‘s multiple exposure function is excellent, and not only can multiple exposure be performed on the frame shot immediately before, but the film counter can be used to accurately multiple exposure any frame.
This “Store Window” series was shot using a PENTAX LX film SLR camera with this excellent multiple exposure system.
We would appreciate it if you could take a look at “The gorgeous front face of Ginza,Tokyo”, which is different from “The Other Side of Tokyo Japan” photography project.
