Thinking About This Photograph

This photograph was taken at Tsukiji 2-chome, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.

Tsukiji 2-chome is the area on the west side of “Shin-Ohashi-dori”, from the Tsukiji 4-chome intersection to the Irifunebashi intersection where the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line “Shintomicho Station” is located.

The photograph was taken in a very narrow alley near the Tsukiji 3-chome intersection.

There are several restaurants on this alley, including a high-class restaurant.

At first glance, the “izakaya”(Japanese Gastropub) in this photo looks like it’s out of business, but it’s open!

Perhaps foreigners would be surprised to see a photograph of the exterior of this “izakaya”.

The awning with the store name is torn, and potted plants are placed like a private house.

If I say, “This is a standard Japanese pub!”, Foreigners will think Japan is a strange country.

It doesn’t feel so strange to Japanese people, but I may hesitate to enter the store.

However, it is a “izakaya” that has a nice atmosphere.
