Thinking About This Photograph

This photograph was taken in Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.

This is a black-and-white film photograph of the garbage storage area in the back alley of “New Ginza Building 12” in Ginza 8-chome.

This garbage storage area is located beside the building entrance on the right side of the photograph.

These are trash cans for each restaurant in “New Ginza Building 12”.

Tokyo,Japan has trash cans for houses and restaurants, but you don’t see public trash cans in parks and public roads.

This is because the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has removed public trash cans since the 1995 “Subway Sarin Attack” to prevent dangerous drugs from being intentionally placed in trash cans.

It’s been 26 years since that incident, but I still can’t seem to escape the trauma.

Tokyo has become a very inconvenient city to live in.

With that in mind, I released the shutter.
