Thinking About This Photograph

This photograph was taken in Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.

I photographed the chairs and trash cans cluttered in front of the bar in the narrow and dark back alley of Ginza 1-chome.

It was taken in a sunny day, but you can see the darkness of the alley from this photograph.

There were two bar entrance doors lined up on the back of the building, and things were cluttered between the doors.

If you look closely at the photo, you can see that there is also a bicycle.

I haven’t visited this alley at night, so I don’t know the details, but it may be open in this cluttered state even at night.

There are many small privately-owned bars in Japan that can only accommodate about 5 people.

I took a picture of the bar entrance in such a back alley.

In the photograph, I matched the exposure to the trash can and the chair, and finished it in a dark tone overall.

The Rollei Retro 80s film is my favorite film because of its excellent shadow tone expression.
