Thinking About This Photograph

This photo was taken in Tsukiji, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.

Private houses in central Tokyo generally do not have a garden.

In Tokyo’s detached houses without a garden, you can often see potted plants placed at the front door.

There is an old tradition in Japan that it is said that placing a plant at the front door is auspicious.

The house in the photo was taken of the side wall of a private house with Tsukiji, and many potted plants are lined up along the wall.

To be honest, it doesn’t look beautiful, but the act of growing plants seems to be fun.

I think the Japanese aesthetic is really “strange”.
